Privacy policy
XFetch downloads media from X (Twitter). It has no analytics or tracking, and GIF conversion happens entirely on your device.
This policy covers the XFetch browser extension. XFetch does not operate a server to receive your media, browsing activity, or personal information.
What XFetch does not collect
- No personal information or browsing history is collected by the extension.
- No analytics, telemetry, or crash reports are sent to XFetch.
- No downloaded media is uploaded to an XFetch server or conversion service.
- No XFetch account is required.
Your settings
XFetch stores preferences such as GIF conversion, quality, and filename templates using your browser’s extension sync storage. Depending on your browser and sync settings, these preferences may sync across devices through your browser account. They are not sent to an XFetch server.
When you click download
- XFetch reads the post information needed to locate its media.
- It requests media information from X’s syndication service and retrieves files directly from X’s media servers.
- When GIF conversion is enabled, it decodes and re-encodes the video on your device using the bundled encoder.
- It saves the result using your browser’s download system. Downloaded files and download history are managed by your browser and device.
These network requests go to X’s services and are subject to their data handling. XFetch does not send the media to an external conversion service.
Why the extension needs permissions
- Downloads: save the files you request.
- Storage: remember your extension preferences.
- Offscreen: perform GIF conversion in a browser document without interrupting your feed.
- Context menus: provide media download actions from the right-click menu.
- Access to X and its media services: add download buttons and retrieve the requested media.
